I hardly could find words to express my shock over the news of the
demise of our Bishop Emeritus, Most Rev. Dr. Anthony E. Ilonu. Here
lies a pontiff who enjoyed the goodwill of many people who saw him
as a father. Like your contemporary Bishop Anthony Nwedo, you
were ahead of your era. Your quiet and pensive mood belongs to an
ideal society yet being expected at the fullness of time. But your
character had passed on many speechless spiritual messages across
the world.

Your doggedness spoke louder than words. Many times during my
seminary days in Okigwe. I saw you in the wilderness alone pacing
about in fervent prayers in the site of Immaculate Conception
Cathedral Okigwe. Your presence energized the builders and gave
credence to the large enviable expanse of land you acquired for
Okigwe Catholic Diocese. Invariably, the Diocese grew from strength
to strength in population and many out-stations were up-graded to
parishes. Your regular pastoral visits led to serious infrastructural
development of the parishes and increase in the number of practising
Catholics.

My lord, Most Rev. Dr. Anthony E. Ilonu, you are led today to rest in
the bosom of your Creator. On behalf of my Foundation, I wish you
safe journey home. May your gentle Soul rest in perfect peace.
